I'm disgruntled. I wrote this amazing blog post on the evening of Easter night, after we put all the kids down early. For a minute our internet went out and BAM, I lost it. Usually Weebly saves my stuff periodically but that night failed me. I didn't have the heart to write it all over so after a few days I will try again. I. Have. A. SIX. YEAR. OLD. Wow! We already celebrated in Disney, but I tried hard to make Ellie's Birthday special. We began with Krispy Kreme (getting all 4 kids and myself dressed and out to breakfast BEFORE school is quite a challenge).
It was also Marly's Easter party at school. After we dropped Ellie off (on time -high five-) we went to chapel at Marly's school where they did a cute Easter segment and then an egg hunt. The middles had a ball and got a nice sugar high, or just kept it going after their morning doughnut. I sorta failed in the evening because I insisted on a low key dinner because we had to cram it between gymnastics and religion class. But then when Phil went to drop her at religion class, we realized it was canceled! I felt awful, we could have gone to a nice dinner together instead of Chick Fil A. To make it up to her I tried to plan a few fun play dates since she was off the next day while Marly had school. After we dropped off Marly we went for a run and by the time we got back, the first play date was canceled. In the grocery store the second one was canceled! So, I took a leap and insisted her buddy Cora come over instead of meeting us at the park. After we picked up Marly we went and got Cora (one of Ellie's besties). You know how you sometimes have just one of those days? Well the two girls had one that day- they just couldn't get along. So, it ended up to be a bust. I kept trying though. We dyed Easter eggs that afternoon after taking Cora home. The soundtrack was me yelling and saying "don't do that". At this point I had poured myself a huge glass of wine. Phil dashed in for a bit to change clothes before tennis. I was saved by my mom and sister coming over on the way back from the airport. Katie helped with bath, stories, prayers and bed and then sat out on the porch with me to finish the bottle. So, it ended well!
Explaining the meaning of Easter is always tricky with kids. I'm not good at explaining dying and death. FFC does an awesome stations of the cross for kids. It's out at Marywood and the stations go through a nature trail. We split up in small groups with a reader. The kids take turns opening resurrections eggs and reading passages. We sing as we walk. It's cool. Afterwards there's a huge picnic on the lawn by the river. Phil took the afternoon off so it was nice to have him around. Katie took Ellie and mom took Marly for a bit to have some special time. Phil and I took the younger 2 on a 4 mile run that nearly did me in! That night we had a sitter and met the Applegates out. We began at the Blind Rabbit and met Katie and her friends at Kickbacks. We tried to bar hop. I wasn't feeling it, maybe it was that run! We were home by midnight. Saturday was the TCC Easter party. Super fun! Brunch, the bunny, face painting, cookie decorating, balloon animals, a petting zoo and the egg and golf ball hunt! Oh my! We kept the party going and crashed Sophia's Birthday party and a visit to my parents house. That night we had dinner with the Mitchell's at La Nap. It'd been SO long since we'd done that! Easter morning came early. The bunny had come! We spent the morning finding eggs, eating eggs and LOTS of candy. We barely made it to mass on time and had to sit in the Confessional. We thought Fr. Jose was joking when he led us there but it worked out well, it's sorta sound proof so the kids could hang out without bothering anyone. My parents and Katie met us there, which was neat! We spent the day at my parents house with the family and the Herons. The cousins did an egg hunt, played hide-n-seek and taught each other cuss words (just to spice things up). It was a fun-filled day! Joy's crack potatoes went over well (that's what I made!) Monday I took M&D and Katie to the airport bright and early. M&D are over in Asia visiting Matt, I'm so jealous! I made it in time for the MOPS Leadership meeting. Those are always fun! We did our traditional McD's lunch afterwards with the kids. They love taking their shoes off and playing all over that nasty playground. It was a marathon of a day. We had Abigail's first swimming lesson with Coach Jen (the same one for the older girls). After the lesson we raced home to a babysitter. It was the grand opening of Mojo's in Gainesville so we went with some UF pals. It was my first time leaving Voss with a babysitter when he wasn't sleeping the whole time. He did so well! Today we had fun playing with one of Abigail's pals at the park, Sam. We picked up Marly then went to a Mommy Blogger Munch & Meet at Corner Bistro. It made me feel good, like I still have a toe in the door of the working world- doing promotions for Disney on Ice! Lesson #2 for Abigail in the pool, although it is pretty chilly! Phil's playing lots of tennis, which is keeping him happy. I hope you enjoyed a beautiful Easter with family and friends. Remembering how blessed we are!
