Being underwater in the cool gulf listening to only the sound of your breathing through a snorkel. Yes. That is a vacation! Phew! Mama is back! Since the country club pool is closed on Mondays, my sister and I headed to the Amelia Island beach. It's always heavenly out there. Everyone loved it! We did a shopping trip to prepare for our scalloping trip and school supplies (while we were at it). Owen and Alex came with us to see The Little Mermaid on Wednesday. We did kids night at TCC with the Bentons that night. I was able to sneak out for a MOPS girls night- night swimming at Tracy's. Great timing! After swim team on Thursday we packed up and headed out to Steinhatchee, FL for a scalloping trip with 5 other families. This was the 2nd annual trip with this group out there. Ellie had been packed for a week! We were all looking forward to the break. We brought 3 babysitters, rented 3 houses and 3 boats. We shared a house with the Nixons. This time we got the largest house on the river. Yes! The first night Jessica (more her than me) did a Greek night with lamb, pitas, hummus, Greek salad and spanakopita! We were late to get it going meaning more drinking and night swimming. Great way to kick it off! We got a morning rain thus a late start the next day. We still got in plenty of scalloping time. I was a little disgruntled at first when Marly lost her mask after being in the water about 25 seconds. I got over it and within the next hour both girls had caught their age in scallops (my rule)! I also got my age, don't worry. We brought the kids back to the babysitters with the youngest kids then went back for adult only scalloping. So relaxing! The Harmons and Thakkars made an awesome pulled pork dinner with squash casserole that night. We did trivia (well Meghan, Dave and Steve did) and Cards Against Humanity. My leg was killing me that night- sore from my fins? Yesterday we went back out. The first stop was awesome! Marly cleaned up with a bag of 34 scallops! I'm so proud of my super scalloping girls! This was such a great trip! I was able to relax and spend quality time with the older girls. The babysitters kept the younger two and they played with all their pals and swam in the pool. Then, we also got plenty of adult only time in the evenings. So nice! Great for the whole family! Last night the Freemans and Applegates did a scallop pasta dish with the scallops we caught from Friday. Delicious! We stayed up way too late last night chatting, drinking and listening to tunes on the porch watching the stars. Ah. That is summer time! Today we packed up and drove back, stopping for one last chaotic meal at a BBQ place on the way. We did mass tonight and missed Caroline's singing. The message was still good. We needed a homily on re-aligning priorities. Perfect! So glad I found some zen this week!
